The Best KRITIFIL Greenhouse Films: Specs & Comparison

The Best KRITIFIL Greenhouse Films: Specs & Comparison

Replacing Greenhouse Film: Why Autumn Is the Perfect Time?
Overview and Comparison of the Most Popular KRITIFIL Films

The end of the growing season and the final harvest mark a time for cleanup for many growers. It is also the ideal moment to replace the film on your polytunnel or greenhouse. Why autumn?

  1. Optimal installation conditions – moderate temperatures make proper tensioning much easier (the film neither shrinks excessively as in winter nor stretches too much as on hot summer days).
  2. Ready for an early spring start – you will be able to begin the new season without delays; sowing and planting can start as soon as the weather permits.
  3. Protection against winter weather – a solid, brand-new film will easily withstand autumn gales as well as winter snow and hail.

To make selecting the right covering easier, we have put together a technical comparison of the most popular film models from the Greek manufacturer Plastika Kritis: from proven standard films to advanced multilayer series.
What Determines the Mechanical Strength of KRITIFIL Films?
Differences in the durability of individual Kritifil agricultural film models stem directly from the manufacturing technology, the types of polymer resins used, the nominal thickness, and the number of co-extruded layers.

Key Technological Factors:

  • Innovative Raw Materials (Resins): The use of metallocene polyethylene (m-LLDPE) and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) significantly enhances elasticity and tear resistance compared to conventional LDPE.
  • Multilayer Structure (Co-extrusion): State-of-the-art co-extrusion (including advanced 7- and 8-layer technologies) allows for the optimal distribution of mechanical properties across individual layers without compromising light transmission.
  • Film Thickness: Greater nominal thickness (ranging from 100–110 µm up to 200–250 µm) translates directly into higher durability and absolute mechanical resistance.

Key Technical Parameters – What to Look Out For?
In Kritifil film specifications, three indicators play a critical role:

  1. Tensile Strength at Break
Determines the material’s resistance to stretching forces in both the machine direction (MD) and transverse direction (TD):

Standard films (e.g., KRITIFIL UV 2925 AD): reach tensile strengths of 21–23 MPa.
High-strength films (e.g., KRITIFIL EVO 7504, UV 2996, UV 2792): achieve values between 25–30 MPa.
Multilayer / Ultra Strong films (e.g., KRITIFIL EVO 7525 AC): exhibit impressive tensile strength reaching up to 40 MPa.

  2. Elongation at Break
A measure of the film's elasticity, typically ranging from 450% to 700% in Kritifil products. Transverse elongation is particularly important, as it prevents the material from tearing under sudden, severe wind gusts.

  3. Dart Drop Impact Resistance
(Key parameter measuring resistance against hail and localized punctures)

Overview of Popular Models – Which Film Should You Choose?

  1. KRITIFIL UV 2925 AD (150 µm) – The Proven Standard
A multilayer greenhouse film that serves as a reliable starting point for conventional crops. Characterized by 21 MPa tensile strength and 400 g Dart Drop impact resistance. Features an anti-drip additive that prevents condensation from dripping directly onto plants.

  2. KRITIFIL EVO 7504 AC (150 µm) – Thermal Protection with 8-Layer Technology
An advanced, crystal-clear 8-layer film formulated with m-LLDPE, EVA, and LDPE. It is a thermic film designed to protect crops from frost and reduce nighttime heat loss. Comes equipped with both anti-drip and anti-fog additives.

  3. KRITIFIL EVO 7525 AC (150 µm) – Breakthrough Wind Resistance
A 7-layer film from the Ultra Strong line. The incorporation of advanced m-LLDPE polymers enables record-breaking tensile strength. An outstanding choice for structures situated in open fields and exposed to violent gales.

  4. KRITIFIL UV8 and UV6 2792 – Strong Compromise Between Weight and Value
A 3-layer film reinforced with metallocene. Despite a moderate thickness (130–140 µm), it provides high tensile strength (27 MPa) and an impressive Dart Drop rating (800 g). Available with an optional anti-drip coating.

  5. KRITIFIL UV8 and UV6 2872 AD (100–110 µm) – The Puncture Resistance Titan
A remarkable 3-layer film combining EVA and m-LLDPE resins to deliver outstanding puncture and hail resistance with minimal self-weight

Summary
Replacing your film in the autumn is an investment in a safe, hassle-free upcoming season. If you are looking for:

  • Maximum wind and load resistance: choose UV12 7525 AC.
  • Frost and condensation (anti-drip) protection: opt for thermic UV12 7504 AC.
  • Extreme hail resistance: check out UV6 2872 AD.
  • Classic, thick film for years of use: UV10 2925 or UV8 2792 will be the ideal fit.
